Voynich Manuscript Series
Inspired by the Voynich Manuscript, a medieval book known as an historical mystery for its undecipherable text and unusual illustrations, I am creating three-dimensional interpretations of the manuscript’s imagery using porcelain, glass and light.
The Voynich Manuscript was carbon-dated to the early 1400s by researchers at Yale University where it is currently archived at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Since its rediscovery in the early 20th century by a rare book dealer, after whom the book is named, its origins and meaning still elude researchers to this day.
High resolution digital image scans of the full manuscript are viewable from several online archives including the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library’s digital collection and the Voynich Manuscript Voyager.
